Carpinteria Architecture

If you want to have a great meal, you have to start with exceptional ingredients. If you want to have a great project, you have to start with great clients.

DCA worked closely with owners Jason and Nirasha Rodriguez to cover every detail and make sure the space turned out exactly as planned. Jason and Nirasha were involved in every detail and aspect of the design.

Passionate about their new space, they collaborated in custom furniture and pendant lighting design with the Brothers of Industry, another local favorite.

When DCA started the schematic phase of our design, an early conceptual moment in each project, we were working with a space twice the size of the existing location.

One day, as we were fitting all aspects of the project into the original floor plan, we got a call from the owners. They had a big surprise for us: “We need to make everything fit in half the size!”

Flexibility is a key trait of any successful designer. We saw the new square footage constraint as an opportunity, and headed back to the drawing board.

In no time, the DCA design team had generated a fresh, efficient new layout that met all our functionality requirements in half the footprint.

We packed in not just a full commercial kitchen for Jason and Nirasha’s super-successful catering business. The space also needed to serve as a lunch venue during the day and a catering school in the evening.

The main kitchen space includes bar seating for cooking classes (check out the full listing of Food Liaison classes here) and reclaimed beams from the Brothers Of Industry.

Every inch of the space was designed and detailed with great care, culminating in an overall presentation that emphasized clean lines with a simple, efficient layout.

The space is accented with unique, industrial-chic details. Our strategy was just like preparing a good meal. Keep it simple and only use the best ingredients.
