Architect

Dylan Chappell, AIA, NCARB

Dylan is a licensed architect and serves as Vice Chair on the Santa Barbara County Board of Architectural Review. Dylan also sits on the Architectural Review Board for the City of Carpinteria. Educated in Architecture at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, Dylan has project experience in Kuwait, Mexico, Mammoth Lakes, Carmel, Montecito, Santa Barbara, and various environments throughout California.

His projects include restaurants, resorts, hotels, retail, multi-family housing, golf facilities, educational facilities, master planning, complex entitlements, and a repertoire of custom residences.

Project Manager

Thomas Kjaersgaard

Thomas is a Project Manager at Chappell Architecture. He has worked on projects in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Denmark with a diverse range of projects including public safety, multi family housing, retail, senior living and residential.  Born and raised in Denmark, Thomas obtained his B.S. in Architectural Technology and Construction Management from the University Collage of Northern Denmark before immigrating to the U.S.A. On the weekends, Thomas enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors with his wife and two young children.

Project Manager

Carlos Sandoval

Carlos Sandoval was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco – Mexico and moved to the United States with his family at a young age. His family set roots in Ventura, where he was raised.  From early age, Carlos developed an interest in art, science and music.  After high school, he attended community college where he was able to explore his interests in a more challenging academic forum. His passion for exploration and creative development led him to discover the field of Architecture. Carlos moved to San Diego, California where he received a Bachelor of Science degree from NewSchool of Architecture and Design. After being in San Diego for 5 years he returned to Ventura to begin his professional career. Working mainly in the Santa Barbara area, Carlos diversified his experience with single family residential projects, healthcare projects, k-12 and higher education facility projects. In an effort to be involved in his community, Carlos joined the City of Ventura Design Review Committee where he served for 2 years. Carlos is a proponent of design concept and process to inform thoughtful design and is committed to mentoring young professionals. In his free time, Carlos enjoys architectural photography, hiking and spending time with his family.

BIM Manager, Designer

Mackenzie Combs

Is a BIM Manager and Project Coordinator who graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2016 with a Bachelors in Environmental Design and certificates in Architectural Engineering Acoustics and Lighting. He is a creative and resourceful leader with experience and training in environmental architectural design, LEED standards, 3d BIM modeling, project management, mapping, riparian restoration, erosion control, environmental resilience, zoning, safety and regulatory compliance. He grew up in Ojai and surfs, paints and is currently restoring a 1967 Silver Streak Sabre.

Designer

Brandon Huang

Brandon is a designer at Dylan Chappell Architects. He graduated from Ventura College for architecture and is currently pursuing a higher education. He previously has worked as a biological conservationist and graphic designer. He studies architecture to someday make a positive impact on people’s lives and the environment with his designs. When he is not designing, he enjoys painting, hiking, and going to the beach.

Designer

Geovanni Ordaz

Geovanni is a recent graduate of Ventura College, planning to attend Arizona State in the fall of 2018 in The Environmental Design Program. His interests include 3d Modeling, visual 3D representation and is our lead renderer. He began studying Architecture immediately of high school and fell in love with the concept of bringing ideas to life that could one day be functional, usable and aesthetically pleasing for todays society. His hobbies include drawing, weight lifting and cooking food. 

Office Manager

Sarah Montague
Sarah joined the team at DCA in early 2018. She graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelors of Science and has since worked in various fields including research, health care, and ministry. The Thomas Fire sparked a desire for her to move back to her hometown of Ventura and pursue administrative work in design, hoping to learn more about the building process as well as accompany clients as they make their ideas a reality. When out of the office, she enjoys traveling, exploring outdoors and spending time with friends and family. 

Greeter

Zoe

Zoe is the official greeter and mascot of Dylan Chappell Architects. She enjoys affection from her coworkers as well as strangers that pass by. In her spare time she enjoys napping, massages and learning new tricks.
